We’re thrilled to share that Jemma Walker, Chair of the Carers Network at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (DCHS), was shortlisted for the Individual Campaigner Award at the inaugural Carers UK Annual Awards 2025.

Nominated by our Employment Engagement Lead, Jayne Davies, Jemma was one of just five individuals recognised nationally for their outstanding commitment to improving the lives of unpaid Carers. This prestigious nomination is a testament to Jemma’s tireless advocacy, heartfelt leadership, and transformative impact across the NHS and beyond.

As a parent Carer to her 25-year-old son George, Jemma brings a powerful blend of lived experience, compassion, and fierce determination to everything she does. Her work as Chair of the Carers Network has not only elevated the voices of working Carers within DCHS, but has also inspired change across the wider health and care system.

Jemma’s unwavering dedication to championing the rights of working Carers has helped shape inclusive policies, foster supportive workplace cultures, and empower countless individuals to balance their caring responsibilities with fulfilling careers.

Our Carers in Employment project, across both Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, helps employers to become more Carer-friendly workplaces by offering free training, guidance, and support.  Participating organisations commit to nominating and training a Carers champion, implementing supportive policies, and creating environments where Carers can thrive professionally without compromising their caring roles.

“We are incredibly proud of Jemma’s achievements and the example she sets for Carer advocacy,” said Helen Weston, CEO from Derbyshire Carers Association. “Her nomination is a testament to the power of lived experience and the importance of championing Carers in every workplace.”
