Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Fluid intake for older adults Survey

My name is Kerry Burrows and I am a Dietitian working at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. This year I am working on a project with other members of the hospital team. We are looking at fluid intake/drinking for older people who are cared for on some of our wards at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

It is really important to us that we know and understand what you think are the most important things we can do to help someone in hospital get enough to drink

Drinking enough can help people to recover more quickly from their illness.

Older adults may be at greater risk of not drinking enough for lots of different reasons. These might include:

·         Not feeling thirsty.

·         Physical difficulties with drinking: for examples difficulties with swallowing or difficulties with lifting cups/mugs.

·         Difficulties with memory which may include remembering if they have had a drink or remembering how to drink.

·         Worries about not getting to the toilet in time/incontinence.

·         Changes to routine.

People might also not know how much they need to drink to look after their health.

Our better understanding will help us to make improvements to how we help older people to drink more in hospital

This Survey consists of 3 Question(s), and should take no longer than 5 minute(s) to complete.

Thank you for taking the time to answer the following question. Please note this questionnaire closes at the end of September.
